18/08/2008 - Kenny Burns: Stags have made a great start

I Must admit I thought Mansfield Town would be in for a struggle this season after being relegated to the Blue Square Premier.

The shenanigans off the pitch made a mockery of the club in the summer and, when Billy McEwan was finally appointed as manager, he only had a few weeks to assemble a squad before the big kick-off.

But while I still think they will struggle to return at the first attempt to the Football League, I must take my hat off to them for the start they have made this season.

Seven points from nine and winning both their home matches is great news.

It will obviously lift some of the gloom and confidence will be rife through the squad.

Long may it continue.

And at Meadow Lane, Notts County are playing a nice brand of passing football.

There will be times when someone needs to put their foot through it, but this is a big period for manager Ian McParland now he has brought his own players in.

Like Forest, they are still in need of a first League win. I hope it comes soon, it would be great to see all three clubs flying high.
