Stags boss to decide on Nix

Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 07:00

MIDFIELDER Kyle Nix is bidding to become Mansfield Town's final signing of the summer.

The former Bradford City player trained with the rest of the players as they began pre-season training yesterday.

Holdsworth has made it clear he is on the look-out for an attack-minded midfield man to complete his squad.

And he is hoping Australian-born Nix, 23, will prove to be that man during a Field Mill trial.

Mansfield have already clinched ten signings in the close season after a raft of players were released.

"Kyle is a left-footed central midfielder who is technically sound and a good passer," said Holdsworth.

"He can play on the left of a central three or in the middle and when you are away from home you need that ability to suffocate teams as well as create.

"He's very much someone who has an eye for getting forward."

Nix has been released by Bradford after two seasons at Valley Parade.

He found himself on the periphery of things last season but was a first-team regular in 2007-2009, scoring eight goals in 44 appearances.

Also under the spotlight is out-of-contract Nathan Arnold.

The right-sided winger has returned to training but it remains unclear where his future lies.

Holdsworth said: "We have had a very good conversation. He's a cracking lad who I like.

"But now if he is going to stay, then he has to get his head down and earn a contract."

Holdsworth declared himself delighted with the fitness of the players on reporting back.

"They have come back in outstanding condition and that is down to their pride and the fact they are focused," said Holdsworth.

Matt Somner (knee) is the only player who is not training but is receiving physio and expected to return in about a week.

He's been brilliant for us, we should snap him up. He's a lot better than his famous relative at Newcastle.
