22/07/2008 - Stags boss McEwan: Good to be back at Field Mill
Billy McEwan is enjoying being back at Mansfield as manager.
The new Stags boss is enjoying the buzz of being back in charge of a club where he once plied his trade as a player.
"It's good to be back as manager," said McEwan. "We all know it's going to be difficult but when you are involved in the game for 40 years as a player, coach and manager, it's where you want to be.
"It has been nice to recharge the batteries but it's in my blood and what I have always done and what I hope to do for a good time yet.
"I need a challenge and this is one. But I look at the club and I think it is changing for the better.
"The facilities at the ground are great, in training and also things off-the-field."
McEwan has been particularly impressed with the supporters, who have been understanding about the club's recent troubles.
He feels, in time, they will once again have something to shout about after a long period in the doldrums.
McEwan said: "The fans have been excellent and I have been talking to a few of them and telling them we have to do things on catch-up. They are optimistic about where the club is going but they also understand it is going to take time.
"We have to be patient and eventually it will be a smashing little club, but I have come in at rock bottom and so have the owners.
"It is a McAlpine job - a massive rebuild but when things are tight you have to be careful with the pennies."
